How we work
Disclosures
We measure a market we also work in and invest in. That is why the data is worth reading and why you are entitled to know exactly where our interests lie. This page sets them out, along with the rule that manages each one.

Who runs this, and how it makes money
Neuronify was co-founded by Vik Chadha and Rob May, who run it and decide what it publishes.
It makes money through its network. We vet AI engineers, fractional leaders, consultancies, and training partners, and when a company engages someone we introduced, we are paid a match fee that is stated in the engagement proposal. That includes diligence reads for investors. Everything we publish, including the data, the guides, the tools, and the newsletter, is free to read.
We do not sell advertising, sponsorship, or paid placement on this site or in the newsletter. If that changes, this page will change first, and anything paid for will be labeled where it appears.
Our founders’ other roles and investments
Both founders do other things in the market we cover, and you should know what.
Vik Chadha is the founder and chief executive of Scalable Ventures and a general partner at Unbridled Ventures, and invests in early-stage companies.
Rob May is the co-founder and chief executive of Neurometric, an AI infrastructure company, writes the Investing in AI newsletter, co-hosts the AI in NYC Show, and has made more than a hundred angel investments in AI companies.
The rules that follow from that:
- Holdings do not touch the data. Our lists and datasets are compiled by published rules from public sources. Whether a founder holds an interest in a company has no effect on whether it is included, how it is ranked, or how it is counted.
- We disclose at the point of mention. When an article, newsletter issue, or guide discusses a company in which either founder holds a financial interest that we know of, it says so in that piece.
- Assume some overlap in the lists. We do not currently annotate the NYC AI 100 or the Hiring Index with founder holdings. Between them the founders have backed well over a hundred early-stage companies, so some of the companies we track are likely to be among them. That is one reason the lists are built by rule and not by judgment.
- Companies the founders run. Neurometric is not in the NYC AI 100 or in the Hiring Index coverage. If a company founded or run by either founder ever meets the published criteria for a list, it will be included on the same terms as any other and marked as affiliated.
The AI in NYC Show
The AI in NYC Show is co-hosted by Rob May, a co-founder of Neuronify. The show is produced by its hosts, has its own website, sponsors, and dinner series, and makes its own decisions about guests. We publish a guide to its episodes and link to it throughout this site, so we are not a neutral observer of it.
Companies whose people appear on the show also appear in our data. They get there by the same rules as everyone else: a guest appearance has no bearing on whether a company is listed or how it is counted, and the show’s sponsors get no treatment here that a non-sponsor would not.
Covering companies we also work with
The companies in our data are the kind of companies that hire from our network, and some of them may be clients. We also help people find work at companies we report on. A publication that does business with its subjects has to be explicit about where the line is:
- Being a client, a prospect, or neither changes nothing about how a company is listed, counted, or written about.
- We never offer coverage, inclusion, or a more favorable description in return for business, and we never withhold them for the lack of it.
- What we learn from a client or a candidate in confidence stays out of what we publish. Our data comes from public job boards, not from conversations.
- We do not name clients in our writing without their permission.
Due diligence for investors
We arrange confidential technical assessments of AI companies for investors and acquirers. That is the sharpest conflict we have, because a subject could be a company we cover, a company we place people into, or a company a founder has backed. The rules, which also appear on the service page:
- We decline where Neuronify, its founders, or a fund affiliated with them is an investor, a bidder, or a lender, or where we hold an active search or placement mandate with the company. We say so before any engagement letter.
- The specialist who does the work confirms in writing that they hold no financial interest in the company or its direct competitors and have not worked for either in the past two years.
- Every assessment is under a non-disclosure agreement. The subject’s name and anything learned never enter our publishing, our data, or our conversations with other clients, and we do not arrange assessments for two bidders on one deal.
- Being the subject of an assessment has no effect on how a company appears in our public data.
Where our data comes from, and what we do with yours
Company and hiring data comes from the public posting interfaces that Greenhouse, Ashby, and Lever provide so that third parties can display a company’s open roles, and from public filings and announcements. We keep the derived figures and discard the posting text. We do not collect personal data from job postings.
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your address goes to the platform that sends it. People who use our tools or download a template are not added to the newsletter list, because they did not ask to be. How we handle personal information is governed by the privacy policy.
