Open roles with a C-level, president, general manager, VP, or “head of” title at the New York AI companies we track. A leadership search says more about where a company is headed than a press release does: a first head of legal, a chief marketing officer, a VP of sales in a new region. We began recording titles on August 15, 2026, so a role shown as open since that date may be older.

How this is compiled

Read from the job boards, every morning. Searches come from the same daily reading of company job boards as the Hiring Index, filtered to executive titles. They cover only companies that post through Greenhouse, Ashby, or Lever, and only roles that are posted publicly; many executive searches never are.

Roles, not people. We report that a search opened or came down. We do not infer who was hired, and we do not track individuals.

What does the tracker cover?

The executive searches open on the job boards of the New York AI companies we track: roles with a C-level, president, general manager, VP, or “head of” title. It is refreshed every morning from the same data as our Hiring Index, and it records when each search opened and when it came down.

Does a job posting coming down mean someone was hired?

No. A posting disappears when a role is filled, cancelled, or reposted under a new link, and we cannot tell those apart. The tracker reports that a search opened or came down and how long it ran. It never says who was hired, and we do not infer moves from job boards or from anyone’s profile.

Where did the funding rounds and leadership moves go?

The curated record of New York AI funding rounds, acquisitions, expansions, and announced leadership moves is now kept by AI in NYC, the city’s AI show and newsletter, at aiinnyc.org/nyc-ai-deals. Every entry that was here is there, with the same sources. This page keeps the executive-search data.

Why track executive searches at all?

A leadership search says more about where a company is headed than a press release does. A first head of legal often comes before a financing or a regulated launch; a chief revenue officer means the founders are handing off sales; a VP of engineering in a new city is an expansion before it is announced.

Which companies are included?

The New York AI companies in our Hiring Index whose job boards run on Greenhouse, Ashby, or Lever, which we can read every day. Companies that post elsewhere, or run searches through a recruiter without a public posting, will not appear. Many executive searches are never posted publicly, so this is a floor, not a census.
